Nespresso SA Unveils “MATRIARCHS”: A Stirring Tribute to Women, Sustainability, and the Art of Reinvention

In honour of Women’s Month, Nespresso South Africa proudly launches a bold and meaningful collaboration with celebrated mixed-media artist Pam Friedman, a woman whose art, spirit, and story embody the very essence of transformation.

“MATRIARCHS,” a solo exhibition now on display at the Candice Berman Gallery (223 Jan Smuts Avenue, Rosebank), is more than just an art showcase it's a powerful celebration of feminine strength, emotional resilience, and the quiet revolutions women lead every day.

With every piece created from upcycled Nespresso capsules, Pam invites us to reimagine waste not as the end of a story, but as the beginning of something beautiful, intentional, and healing.

At its core, MATRIARCHS honours the ever-evolving journey of womanhood, how women continuously shift between roles, rediscover their identities, and breathe life into the overlooked. It’s a tribute to the quiet power of starting over, of redefining oneself, and of nurturing the world differently with care, creativity, and courage.

“Reinvention is not just a necessity - it is a feminine superpower,” says Pam Friedman, whose year-long creative journey with Nespresso has culminated in this deeply personal and visually arresting exhibition.

Through this unique partnership, Nespresso South Africa amplifies its belief that sustainability is not just environmental it’s human, emotional, and cultural. Just as Pam transforms discarded capsules into works of art, the brand transforms waste into opportunity, embodying a luxury that is no longer about excess, but about purpose.

The exhibition launched on 31 July with an exclusive, invitation-only event. Guests were treated to a heartfelt short film exploring Pam’s process and Nespresso’s broader commitment to sustainability. The evening was opened by Keabetswe Legodi, Social Media and PR Specialist for Nespresso South Africa, who shared:

“This collaboration is a tangible expression of our values. At Nespresso, we are committed to reducing waste and uplifting women, not only through our products but through partnerships that challenge and inspire. This is what regeneration looks like: giving voice to artists, meaning to materials, and power to purpose.”

Globally, Nespresso continues to build on its promise to protect the planet and empower people. The brand’s Gender Strategy for 2030 champions a gender-transformative approach, aiming not just to treat symptoms of inequality, but to reshape systems and unlock opportunity. It’s a future that sees women not only participating but leading the way.

As MATRIARCHS proves, beauty is found not in perfection, but in resilience. In the hands of artists like Pam, and through the support of brands like Nespresso, a new narrative is being written one where waste becomes art, sustainability becomes culture, and women become the architects of a more regenerative world.
