Abalobi's ethically-sourced seafood now just a click away with new online store

Abalobi, a social enterprise dedicated to empowering small-scale fishing communities through data and technology, has launched an online store called "Fish with a Story" to make their products more accessible to the general public.

This new online store allows home cooks to conveniently purchase premium, ethically caught filleted fish such as Yellowtail, Cape Bream, Carpenter, and more. It also offers coastal pantry products like Dune Fig Jam, Bokkom Biltong, and Sea-Lettuce Salt.

The Fish with a Story online store complements Abalobi's existing offering of fresh, whole "catch of the day" fish, which can be ordered through the Abalobi Marketplace app.

According to Iain Campbell from Abalobi, while the brand continues to focus on supplying fresh whole fish through the app, offering deli products on the online store adds a level of convenience to responsible eating.

Campbell explains that not everyone feels comfortable filleting and deboning a whole fish, and some may not have the time to monitor the app for daily catch information. By providing deli products, Abalobi stays true to its core values while minimizing waste and ensuring the ultimate freshness of its excellent South African seafood.

Abalobi ensures transparency throughout its multi-channel marketplace by utilizing QR codes for traceability. Upon receiving their products, consumers can scan a QR code on the label to learn about the source of their seafood, including details about the fisher, the location and date of the catch, and full pricing transparency. The QR code also provides a direct link to a relevant recipe on www.fishwithastory.org.

Currently, delivery of "Fish with a Story" products is limited to the Western Cape region. However, Abalobi plans to expand delivery areas in the future and is actively exploring retail partnerships nationwide.

They aim to collaborate with premium delis, installing branded freezers stocked with Fish with a Story seafood. Delivery within the Western Cape is free for orders over R450, and orders are typically fulfilled within 48 hours.
